Anne With An E: Adventure of Imagination

    

For those of you who love watching or want to try watching period movies or series, the Netflix Series 'Anne With An E' is one series that you should watch at least once in your lifetime. One of the most beloved series on Netflix, with 28 episodes in 3 seasons.

Anne With An E is adapted from the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It tells the story of Anne Shirley, a girl from an orphanage who is adopted by Cuthbert siblings, Mathew Cuthbert and Marilla Cuthbert. 

At first, the siblings wanted to adopt a boy, so they could help Matthew take care of the Green Gables farm. However, due to a miscommunication with Mrs. Spencer, the woman who was asked by the Cuthbert siblings, to adopt a boy from an orphanage, Anne was brought to Green Gables. Marilla refused and wanted to return Anne to the orphanage, but in the end Anne was accepted and became part of the Cuthbert family, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert. 

The series is set in the late 19th century on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Although some of the storylines have been changed from the novel, the series 'Anne With An E' is very relevant to the issues of today. It raises issues of gender equality, racism, how bullying was at that time, and freedom of speech. 'Anne With An E' also chronicles the lives of minority Indians in Canada. 

The first season of the series premiered in 2017, this season tells the story of Anne's new life in Green Gables, Anne is still experiencing culture shock with the stereotypes of Avonlea society. Continuing in the second season, further deepening Anne's relationship with her friend and the residents of Avonlea, this second season is a season where each episode raises different issues. And the third season, Anne is looking for the origins of where she came from, whether it is true that her parents have died, also tells the story of Anne who had to leave childhood and go to Charlottetown, for further schooling. 

The 'Anne With An E' series, with each season and episode, delves deeper into how Anne finds herself and overcomes life's challenges in an often unfriendly world. Anne teaches us to always be ourselves, to take pride in being unique. Also, to dare to speak the truth and always try to accept or understand differences. 

Apart from Anne, we can also learn from other characters who are difficult to accept in Avonlea. Like the character of Mrs. Stacy who plays the role of a new teacher in the second season, replacing the previous apathetic teacher. Mrs. Stacy is often the talk of the socialite moms in Avonlea. This is because of her open and more modern thinking, Mrs. Stacy is also considered to deviate from the Avonlea stereotype. But, Mrs. Stacy doesn't care, she continues to be herself as long as she is not wrong, nor does she give up on open minds of the conservative Avonleans of that time.

This series is good for opening new views for people who watch it, but unfortunately, the fourth season of this series was not continued, there was a cancellation from CBC and Netflix. In fact, there are still many stories that must be continued, such as, how the fate of Ka'Kwet, Anne's friend from the Indian tribe.  

Of course, this sparked a reaction from fans of the 'Anne With An E' series who were disappointed with this cancellation. The fans did not accept, even going so far as to create campaigns and petitions to continue making the fourth season of 'Anne With An E'. Until now, fans of the series are still using the hashtag #RenewAnneWithAnE on social media. Although, there is still no good news about the continuation of the fourth season. 

'Anne With An E' is one of the series adaptations of classic novels that has succeeded in being loved by many people. Because the story is set in the late 19th century but made with a modern touch, where the issues raised are also felt by people today. Fans' hopes for the series are of course the continuation of the fourth season, but also hope that the series will be more highlighted and appreciated. Because, the positive value of this series is inspirational for many people.
